Gatherings To new frinds and to old friends and to the Flower Fairies (Kaylin)I want to say thank you. I came to Festival late, heartsore and weary and you made me laugh again. I am humbled by the love and peace that you gave me and by the joy that you all reminded me of.

I thank you all with all my heart. I have come home again.

March 23rd - 27th, 2005
Held at Hidden River Resort
Just North of Jacksonville, FL near Maclenny, FL.
Hidden River Resort is an 88 acre facility located 16 miles north of Maclenny in northeast Florida. (it's 39 miles from the I-95/I-10 intersection in downtown Jacksonville.) The Site features Hot Showers (4 indoor and 2 outdoor) with a small hot tub attached, swimming pool, a 30 x 60 stage, a 20 x 40 pavillion, decks, and 15 full (with septic) RV hookups, and 11 power/water hookups. The Property is neat, clean, and the facilities are solidly constructed (We will not ever overload the power on this site, I suspect) and we will have plenty of room to grow. PhoenixPhyre 2004 was our first festival held on the new property, and it met our needs very well. We can look forward to a wonderful festival on an incredible property.

Gathering Archives: More Workshops
posted by Dianne on Mar 16, 2005 - 09:51 AM

Gatherings The workshops are all in and are very exciting!

Can we talk about the Change of Life? Presented by Ardeith of Dragonwood
Can we mention "menopause" in mixed company?
I think we should because some 38 million women will be making that Change in the next few years.
Let's talk about what you can expect during this time, and how you can cope with it.
Why should men be interested in this? Because you either live with women, work with women, or are the sons and brothers of women; and because those women are going to go through changes that will have an impact on your lives. Whether you like it or not. Let's talk about how women (and men) can survive the Change of Life, and keep your marriages and relationships intact.
Priestess of Dragonwood Circle, companion of Fred Wood, mother of four human beings, grandmother of six people we hope will become good examples of human beings, and a post-menopausal Crone. Been there . . . done that . . . and survived. Fred survived, too.

Broom Closet Blues Presented by Scarlett Ross
How big is your closet? How small is your pentacle? Do these things really matter? This discussion will examine the pros, cons and confounding issues of being openly Pagan in a non-secular world. Coming out (or not) of the Pagan religious closet is a difficult, slippery, and very personal decision. I will work with groups on their fears, joys and experiences related to the reality of living a private spirituality in the public world of work and family. Once the decision has been made to remain in the closet or step outside (or something in-between), we will examine the practicalities of this decision in day-to-day living.

A Primer in Prophecy and Prediction - a hands-on production Presented by Scarlett Ross
An introduction to some of the oldest and weirdest known forms of divining the future including famous faces like Nostradamus. We'll explore the reasons behind Nostradamus's need to prophecy, reasons why you should (and should not) peek into the future. This workshop will also include instructions and materials to create your own personal runes. Future not included.

Gathering Archives: Fires, Campfires, Torches and Candles
posted by Wade on Mar 12, 2005 - 11:06 AM

Gatherings I need to remind everyone that about the fire / Campfire situation at
the festival.

There are three open fires at the Festival only; The Main ritual Fire
(Actually two fires, the center fire an auxilarry fire for the
drummers), The Fire in the center of the Community Area in the center
of The Merchants Circle, and a Third community fire that will mst
likely be in one corner of the Parking lot accross from the bathrooms
(about half way between ritual circle and the pavillion).

There will not be any fires approved anywhere else on the site.
Cooking fires (and stoves) are allowed, but in raised containers, and
must be Physically manned at all times, and extenguished immediately
following your meal.

Along a similar vein: Open flames (Candles, tiki's, or similar) are
fine, but you must extinguish them if you leave the area (even if only
briefly) This includes Altars. We are planing a community Altar that
can have lit candles, it'll be located either at the ritual circle, or
at the Pavillion, so it'll have someone watching it at all times.

The site is dry; N.E.Florida is down three inches of rain for the year
so far, and although we do have a front coming through in the next day
or two, there will not be enough to significantly reduce the wildfire
threat.

Gathering Archives: PPhyre 2005 Workshops
posted by Dianne on Mar 08, 2005 - 03:49 PM

Gatherings Workshops for PhoenixPhyre 2005, so far. More to come!!

Salt Silk Sarong Dyeing - Presented by Rowan
Bring your creative juices. We provide silk, dye and salt and you walk away with a sarong you dyed yourself. Pick your complimentary or contrasting colors and get your hands dirty (not literally). Wear something you don't mind getting dyed because once the dye is dry, it is set. $20.00 fee.

Massage Presented by Slug & Slothe
Head to toe, including face. Bring a partner or come alone. We will teach simple stress relief techniques through massage. Bring a blanket.

Chakra - Clearing and Strengthening Presented by Slug & Slothe
With breathing and hand motions, this meditation includes color visualization and a guided journey out of the body to beautiful places.

Yoga for Slugs Presented by Slugwoman
Simple, easy yoga. Fist half of workshop for children, second half for adults only.

Tai Chi or Jujitsu Presented by Leonid Geiniman
One hour Chi Gong exercise and self defense practice 8 A.M. daily

Poly Pagan Discussion Group Presented by Rev. Elaine Ries
What is polyamory? According to the Michigan Polyamory web site, “it's the concept that honest, loving, intimate relationships are possible outside the structure of the "couple." Come join us in discussing the pleasures and challenges of being both Polyamorous and Pagan in a culture that is primarily monogamous and conventional. You don’t have to be Poly or Pagan to attend this workshop, just curious and open-minded. Over 18 only please!

Shoud Channeling Experience Presented by Rev. Elaine Ries
Humankind’s journey has been amazing, if nothing else. What began long ago as Divine Source’s desire to know Itself, has evolved into a truly remarkable experience of Duality that we humans continue to co-create. We are always at choice – even if only on an unconscious level. Ever wonder what the heck we are gonna come up with next for our destiny? Consider blending your Energies with us for a Shoud experience. Shoud is a form of channeling in which the Higher Consciousness of the entire group of Divine Humans present is channeled, rather than that of an Angel or Master Teacher. This is an opportunity to get an overview of our shared present and future Path. Please come with an open heart and mind.

Dancing The Candle Wheel Presented by Cypress
Picture this, the fire is burning and the drums are drumming. Off to one side of the circle is a large wooden wheel. On the top of that wheel are 12 lit candles and around that wheel are 12 beautiful women holding handles on that wheel dancing in perfect harmony. The women are aiding in the turning of the wheel, celebrating the changes of the seasons. You know you have never seen anything like it but, you also know your mind will recall the image for years to come, when it is time celebrate the turning of the wheel. Join me in learning to Dance The Candle Wheel in this workshop. Then join together again at night near the fire to share the beauty of the Candle Wheel with your community.

Our Pagan Roots in Today's Culture, or, Where Did We Come From? Presented by Micheal Frantz
Where does our American cultural heritage really come from? Don’t ask the Christians, most of them will get it wrong. What is a pagan? Is the truth of what makes a person a pagan anywhere close to the dictionary definitions? This lesson will attempt to expose you to as many aspects of paganism in our American culture, through our customs, as is possible within our allotted time. And to discuss those things that I, or you, believe are important.

Gathering Archives: Ivo Domiguez update
posted by Dianne on Feb 17, 2005 - 12:01 AM

Gatherings Hello pholks,

We just received an email from Ivo saying he will not be able to be at PPhyre. He had just returned from the dermatologist and had a biopsy and has a pre-cancerous actinic keratosis. She wants to treat him with efudex which will turn his forehead and temples into a crusty weepy mess and he has to stay out of the sun during the treatment/healing process which will be 4-7 weeks. He can't start the treatment until the biopsy site is fully healed which places the festival in the middle of the worst of it. The good news is that he should be completely healed.

Please light a candle for Ivo; those of you who've met him know that he is a dear person, a wonderful teacher, and a lovely human being. We'll miss him at PhoenixPhyre, but he hopes to join us at AutumnMeet.

Thanks for your prayers, Dianne

Gatherings This was my first Pagan event that I have attended. My hats off to the staff for an excellent job. The people were friendly and helpful, we had a great time and learned much. Now that I have been to one, I hope never to miss another.
As we were leaving Sunday I found a necklace partially buried in the sand on one of the trails. PM me (shadough)with a description of the necklace, I will be glad to mail it to you. Shadough

Gathering Archives: Updates
posted by Wade on Oct 20, 2004 - 10:29 AM

Gatherings Two more items have come to my attention - it's a bit short notice - but a quick response will be appreciated.

First Item - Armbands. It's been a long road to get to this place, but, good bad or otherwise there is a new, solid armband policy. Armbands will be worn at all times, they will always be on the right wrist. We've tried other ways to make this work, but it seems that the best way to handle this is to simply make one rule and apply it across the board. Please understand this is to maximize fairness, not minimize it.

Second item.

It has been my intention to have one memorial a year, not one per festival. Beginning with AutumnMeet 2004, we are going to do it that way. I think that it would be a goodness to have a space in the guidebook to list those of our Phamily who have passed on. It would be helpfull if people close to those who have moved on would write a short paragraph about our loved ones who have moved on and email it to me within the next 3 days (So we can get it in the guidebook).

Blessings and thanks,
Wade

Gathering Archives: Listening, Learning and Improving
posted by Ackadia on Sep 23, 2004 - 04:44 PM

Gatherings Changes are in the works for The Youth Programming at Autumn Meet 2004. The usual workshops are no more. In their place will be fun activities for Teens and Tweens. Plus the Apprenticeship program is re-launching with a new Coordinator and new Options. Any teen or tween who participates in the Apprenticeship program will be mailed a Certificate of Appreciation for the hours they served this Community. Thus, creating a permanent record of their service and good will. A new ‘workshop’ has been added to the Wednesday evening schedule called Homework Helpers. This will be a time for all grade school aged (k-12) students to come together with a few adult volunteers and tackle that “homework." This will hopefully eliminate some stress for both students and parents as this ‘problem area’ will be done and the rest of the Festival can be dedicated to ‘important’ business. Donations of Food (pizza, burgers, chips, etc.) and Drinks (sodas) would be greatly welcomed!
The last change is something that will help continue the improvements and make everyone’s festival experience the best it can be. There is a new yahoo group dedicated to listening to the desires and hopes of our youth. Please encourage your teen or tween to join.
Simply send an email to:
Phoenix_teens-speak-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

I look forward to a very exciting and productive Autumn Meet!

Gatherings Main Ritual: Surprise!
Presented by Isaac Bonewits and....
Based on “Rites of Worship”, Isaacʼs newest book, and the workshop presentations he has designed. Isaac will lead the participants in these workshops in the creation, preparation and performance of a new liturgy. Weʼre not sure what to expect, but this should be a very exciting and interesting event. We are very much looking forward to it!

Music at PhoenixPhyre
DreamTrybe and Emerald Rose return for a magickal Friday evening, but we're going to do Friday Night just a little different. Here's the background: Lena, Suzanne, Dawn, Todd and I had a great time up at "Dreaming" last month. One of the Highlights was the "Goblin Ball." It was a dress up dance with live music. It was soo much fun, and many of us dress up for concert night anyway, so we thought an official "Dance" with Guest performers Emerald Rose and Dreamtrybe playing would be a blast.

BUT! It's created a problem. We need a name for the event. Obvously the cool name "Goblin Ball" is taken. We need a name that is unique for us. With all you creative folks out there I bet you are just brimming with cool names for the Phoenix Dance on Friday night.... Let's here 'em! (feel free to use the "comments" feature to add your idea!

I believe that i never felt more welcome anywhere i have ever been than i had at PhoenixPhyre 2004, Everybody that i had met were very friendly and helped me if i had a question or problem. Being that this was my first festival i have ever attended, obiviously i was rather shy at first at what i was seeing and learning, slowly opening up to being myself. there is some people i want to mention here who made a very large impact on me while i attended this festival and i shall begin with Wade And Dianne, To both of these fine Persons i wish to express my gratitude at allowing me to open up and find myself. To Nybor and Elspeth, My newly adopted parents in this life, For teaching me to become one with this world in ways i never dreamed of, in embracing teachings that i now see, and i am learning to love as i become more learned in the loving instruction they both gave me, as i opened my eyes and looked on the path that i now walk. I love you both and may the goddess protect you both, and i will see you both soon.

Note: Thank YOU jeff for being a part of Phamily

Gathering Archives: Festival Recap - Thank you's and Wishes
posted by Wade on Apr 06, 2004 - 11:01 AM

Gatherings Thank you to all the Speakers, performers, presenters, and Phamily for PhoenixPhyre 2004. There were so many cool things about this event, that it will be hard to list all of them, but lets cover some of the highlights.

Trish : Wonderful workshops, and thank you so much for your help.

Isaac and Phaedra : it was wonderful to see and here from the two of you again. In particular, I think the ideas you are bringing the community concerning the treatment of our elders and their care are important ones. It is time to revisit landed community, and I think that the integration of elder care and community into that process is critical to the long-term survival of our culture.

Nybor and Elspeth : thank you for not only being a part of our community for so very long, but allowing us to grieve as well.

Jim Looman : First, thank you for bringing us an awareness of how to help handicapped Pagans smoothly integrate into community. Second, congrats! The largest CAWmunity camp ever on a Phoenix festivals event, and we are looking forward to an event Larger CAWmunity at AutumnMeet 2004!

Dreamtrybe : Wonderful, as always, thank you for the spectacular performance (With the Incredible fire magic! There is an unbelievable photo of Anthony fire breathing in my photo collection, look at the gallery for it.... wow!) A special thanks to Lynda for stepping up and facilitating Bardic Circle, when we found out that Maya could not make it due to an illness in her family, Bardic went very well, with almost 2/3rds of the site showing up to participate. Probably a new record!

Maya : We missed you! hurry back!

To the Phoenix Crones: thank you for another excellent main ritual! I heard many, many people talk about how good it was.

To Galan and Bast : Thank You! It's very good to see that the Florida community can get together, and cooperate. Not to mention that it was a joy to meet each of you. Good luck with F.P.G. (gratuitous plug: http://www.flapagan.org/ - next event is F.P.G. Beltane in less than 2 months)

Gatherings The workshop offerings just keep coming in. Thank you, Speakers and Phamily!

Dance of Life/Introduction to The Clan Mothers Presented by Gypsy
Women Only
Early morning greet the new day followed by an introduction to The Thirteen Original Clan Mothers by Jamie Sams: Sharing the truth of an ancient feminine wisdom tradition. A new method of honoring and incorporating native feminine wisdom into our daily lives. Each of the Clan Mothers reflects a particular teaching, relates to a cycle of the moon, and possesses special totems, talents, and gifts that can help each of us cultivate our own personal gifts and talents.

Dance of Life/Animal Totems Presented by Gypsy
Women Only
Early morning greet the new day followed by an introduction to types of books and card deck available on the market, a discussion of different animals and what they have to say to us. We are all related.

Shamanic Journey to the Underworld Presented by Precious Nielsen
****Schedule Fri or Sat
Precious Nielsen is a Medicine Woman who began her training from her
youngest days and studied under several teachers for over 30 years.
Our universe contains fabulous places, many of them well within reach of us
in our everyday lives and physical bodies. The overlapping circles within
the eye at the centre of overlapping nebula evokes the dream-place we go to
when we journey and when we sleep. It is a place where the Everyday and
Otherworld meet and are both together, a place we can easily go to interface the two.
This workshop will give you information about journeying, including some
safeguards, for the first 30 minutes. Then the group participants will be
guided to a place where you can visit ancestors, spirit guides or animal
guides who are available to assist you, or you can go to get questions
answered from more ethereal sources. You will be able to journey to live
drumming in a safe place without disturbance for 45 - 60 minutes. When the
journeys are completed we will discuss them, have a snack and make sure
everyone is grounded and centered before leaving the workshop.
Handouts will be provided and journey drumming cd's will be available to
purchase for those who wish to journey on their own at home.
Aho!

We will again be registering cameras and video equipment at PhoenixPhyre 2004. We realize that many of you wish to record your memories of friends and events. We don’t want to inhibit your enjoyment and we must take steps to protect our community. It was determined that the best solution to accommodate all concerned is to register cameras /video equipment at the Registration Booth upon entry. Proper identification will be required and everyone with cameras/video equipment will be issued a special armband which must be worn at all times. Anyone observed with a camera/video equipment and without the proper armband will be asked to leave the festival. So please! don’t loan your camera/video equipment to anyone “for a quick shot”. Your cooperation is valued and your sensitivity is necessary for a happy festival experience for everyone.
Note: Additional information for PhoenixPhyre 2004 The gate policy will be strictly adheard to. Life is hard enough on the poor overworked guardians......

Gatherings March 24 - 28, 2004
Held at Hidden River Resort
Just North of Jacksonville, FL near Maclenny, FL.
Hidden River Ranch, an 88 acre facility located 16 miles north of Maclenny in northeast Florida. I had heard a lot of really nice things about Hidden River from various people (Especially Rosemary and Brian!), and they were right. The Property is neat, clean, and the facilities are solidly constructed (We will not ever overload the power on this site, I suspect) and we will have plenty of room to grow.

Preliminary Guest Speakers and Performers:

  • Isaac Bonewits
  • Dreamtrybe
  • Maya Heath
  • James Looman
  • Patricia Telesco
  • Nybor
  • Elspeth

Harmonic Alignment and Balance: Bringing Love, Light, and Peace Through the Healing Power of the Universe: Presented by Lana Williamson
Discussion of the nature of Harmonic Alignment. Harmonic Alignment is a numerological interpretation of the geophysical/geomagnetic principles of the earth. The process uses crystals and rocks to harmonize the body's energy with the natural healing energy of the earth. The method can be used to reduce stress and improve overall health. Lana has also worked with individuals with chronic health problems in making significant changes in their quality of life. Lana begins with a discussion of the major chakra points, the art of the laying on of stones, and a recommended technique to determine the specific grid required for balance. She will explain her particular method, a variation of basic numerology using one's name to create a pattern unique to the individual. At the conclusion of the lecture Lana will provide a demonstration of the grid work she uses for alignment and balance.
